Foxe's Book of Martyrs - John Foxe

How much would you be willing to suffer for Christ? Would you be willing to experience intense persecution, prison, and even torture, for your belief in Christ? Would you be willing to confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior even if it meant death?

Foxe's Book of Martyrs is a highly acclaimed book written by John Foxe and first published in 1563. It details stories of persecution and the depths that Christians would go to remain true to their beliefs in Jesus Christ. As I read this book I was awed by the rock solid faith that these believers had. Even while being burned at the stake, there are stories of Christians continuing to exalt and praise His name.

1 Peter 4:16 tells us we should not be ashamed if we suffer as a Christian, but we should instead praise and glorify His name. We should have courage and faith to stand up for our beliefs, and even be willing to die in His name. In the 21st century are you willing to stand up for your faith in Jesus Christ no matter what the cost?

Since the first publishing over 450 years ago, there have been numerous revisions and versions of the original Foxe's Book of Martyrs. Some of the books have been updated to contain not only the original text but stories of persecution over the last four century's since the original book was published.
