What I enjoyed about Risen is that it told the timeless story of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus from a fresh vantage point. The film details a Roman soldier's search for Jesus' body after His death upon the cross.

Risen is a well-polished movie. The acting, scenery, costumes, and CGI are all good and believable for the period. The film is a work of historical fiction, but key biblical doctrines are not undermined. For example, does the Bible mention a manhunt for Christ's body after the Resurrection? No, but that doesn't mean it did not happen. Pilate and the Jewish leaders would have had plenty of reasons to find Christ's missing body since they went to such great lengths to secure His tomb.

Experiencing the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ through the eyes of an unbeliever made for an entertaining film. Seeing the journey the Roman soldier takes in order to find real truth made for a thought provoking movie.
