The Hill

The Hill is the inspiring true story of Rickey Hill. Despite a degenerative spine disease and a Baptist preacher father who has his own plans for his son's life, Rickey follows his own God given dream to play baseball.

Dennis Quaid gives a fantastic performance as Rickey's father. He only wants the best for his son, but gradually learns that he needs to listen and respect what Rickey feels is God's direction, even if it is contrary to his own desires for his son's life. The film is full of life lessons such as respect for each other's feelings, patience, persevering, trusting in God, and helping others, to name just a few.

As I watched this faith-based movie, I was reminded that we all have different callings in our life from God. Some are called to be pastors and missionaries. Some are called to be godly men and women in our jobs. Others are called to be stay-at-home parents and raise kids in a godly manner. And yes, some are called to play baseball and share their faith through the athletic gifts God has given them.

The most impactful message of the movie to me was to follow your dreams. I thought about Bible characters such as Solomon, Joseph, and Samuel, who are given dreams. Acts 2:17 tells us that in these last days, God will give us dreams and visions. How can me make sure our dreams align with God's plan for our life? Psalm 37:4 says to take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
